Wisp’s World: Inside the Rising Artist’s Sound, Vision & Drive
With her new single "Save Me Now," Wisp steps into her heaviest sound yet—fusing dreamy vocals with grungy guitar lines to explore the tension between longing and self-sacrifice. Building on the fantasy-tinged world she’s been crafting through earlier singles like "Sword" and "Get Back to Me," this track reveals a more grounded, emotional layer while still echoing the grand, atmospheric feel that’s become her signature.
In the Q&A below, Wisp shares a glimpse into the personal inspirations behind her music, from childhood memories and trusted mentors to her love of visual storytelling and piano-led nostalgia. Even with a whirlwind year of global shows and rising acclaim, she stays focused on connection, creativity, and simply enjoying the ride.
Outside of your art form, where do you find inspiration?
All of my inspiration comes from every experience I have that alters some part of my brain chemistry. It could be a crush or a revelation about my lifestyle habits, just as long as I feel it enough that it grows the urge in me to write and create in that very moment.
Where do you think you get your personal power from?
I think my personal power comes from the desire to fulfill others. I don’t think it’s reckless to create art for the sake of others, but the one factor that motivates me to continue to create is when I hear how much my art has helped my listeners. It started off as a form of therapy for me and now that it is becoming more universal in the ways it heals, I want to reach as many people as possible.
What is your favourite space?
My favorite space would obviously be my childhood living room. I get to sleep on the couch, listen to my dad talk on the phone with his co-workers, hear my mom vacuuming, and so much more. The air is always filled with simple love.
Is there something you learnt early in your career that you have now disproven?
Early on into my career, I kind of subconsciously thought less of myself for not being able to play guitar the greatest or produce my own music. I thought maybe that’s why I felt so unsatisfied with the music I was making alone. Now that I’ve collaborated with other artists and really learned about what the music community means, there’s no other way to do it than with others. Art is meant to be shared and worked with by all and any. There is no way to create like any other musician no matter how technical and talented you are. We all have our own unique styles and ears that hear things others can’t.
Within your immediate circle of friends and family or chosen family who is your hero and why?
My heroes are my mom and dad. Haha, as they should be for most- they’ve seen me at every point in my life. I’m happy to call them my biggest fans. They didn’t doubt me for a second when I started creating music and have been so supportive ever since.
How much of a role do other musicians play in inspiring your work?
The world. It doesn’t even have to be about directly making music together. All of my friends are people I play music with and it’s so inspiring just seeing them do what they love.
Is there a specific sonic theme, genre or instrument that you draw pure joy from?
I draw so much joy from the piano. Honestly, I can’t play piano very well (or at all), but it’s the prettiest sounding instrument to me and it’s so nostalgic too. I grew up doing ballet and a lot of the tracks we danced to were piano based classical pieces.
How does visual aesthetic come to play in your work?
Worldbuilding in music is equally as important as the music itself. It helps you build character and attach imagery to already storytelling art. I love doing everything on the creative side, like treatments for music videos or designing merch. It’s just so fun.
What are the core values behind your art?
Just doing what you want. All of the music I make is based on what I’ve been listening to recently, how I’m feeling on that day, and recent events circling around the time of the song's creation. The most genuine art comes from creating with no guard, no restrictions. If you make rock music, but you’ve been listening to Pop and you feel inspired, go write a pop track!!!
