Little Simz Channels Punk Mischief in ‘Young’

Simz is back—and she's playing dress-up with dynamite. ‘Young’, the third drop from her upcoming Lotus LP, is a delicious detour into character, chaos, and high-frequency play. Guided by Miles Clinton James’ bass-rich production and dripping in a punky, girl-gang energy, Simz squeals, spits and glides through sharp storytelling in a new, lighter register. Her voice flirts with parody, but the sentiment hits true—this is an artist unafraid to expand her mythos. If Free and Flood were soul-deep confessions, Young is the wink between lines.
The Dave Meyers–directed video is a total trip: Simz as a rebellious teen channeling equal parts anime heroine and North London street kid, wrapped in latex, tartan, and enough attitude to rewire the grid. Think surrealist sleepover meets Brit-Garage futurism. Stylised but raw, cinematic but irreverent, it’s a striking evolution in the Simz visual universe—cheeky, unfiltered, and a little bit feral. Lotus, due June 6, promises to be expansive and unpredictable, with collaborators including some of Astrophe’s favourites—Moses Sumney, Obongjayar, Yussef Dayes, and Yukimi Nagano. Long live this era.
