Post-Punk, Popcorn, and the Undead: Owusu Meets Halloween Cinema
With Halloween shadows stretching across the evening, Genesis Owusu invites us into the fray with his latest single DEATH CULT ZOMBIE – a thundering, post-punk anthem born of fury, fear, and fierce clarity. Out now via OURNESS, the track detonates with gritty bass, explosive guitars, and a haunting message: “The delusion is more comfortable. But the longer you sit in that delusion, the faster the zombification spreads…” It’s a siren song for our digital age, where dogma breathes, fear cages, and the undead shuffle in plain sight.
Replace doom-scrolling with some cinematic cult classics this Halloween weekend. Here are Astrophe’s recommendations: start with Night of the Living Dead (1968) to witness the birth of zombie horror, then onto The Wicker Man (1973) for ritualistic dread. Follow with Suspiria (1977) for kaleidoscopic terror, and Hausu (1977) for surreal, sugar-coated nightmares from Japan’s strangest cinematic dream. Ease the edges with Practical Magic (1998), for the 90’s core fashion, before plunging into 28 Days Later (2002), the feral modern classic that redefined the apocalypse.
Then press play on Owusu’s new cinematic world, artfully brought to life under the creative direction Isaac Brown and Gina Wagstaffe; and feel the haunting space between the living and the lost, between belief and collapse. Don’t be a death cult zombie — frolic, hug your friends, and touch some grass.
